100th and most beloved character: Some dude with a knife
I always enjoyed this aspect of D&D games: the creative, interesting enemies, places, and artifacts that you could find in some of the books/tomes.
In fact, i was able to find the exact book i was thinking of at archive.org! The AD&D 2nd edition Book of Artifacts: https://archive.org/details/tsr02138add2ebookofartifacts/mode/1up
Here's one of my favorites from the book, though it's been so long i really could do to give in another gander:
"Mom can I have dragon?
"No, we have dragon at home."
Another one of those cases where the "within field of vision" part of mage hand isn't really adhered to.
Quiet you, those rules are for the players!
So I checked and it depends on the species but one flying snake has a field of view of 308.5°. So for some species they'd be able to have hands way apart from each other
