City guards (obviously more experienced and way higher level than the group): "We've lost so many troops around there, no one goes there in that wishes to live on."

I remember being part of TPK with almost the same. The only difference was Shadowrun rather than heroic fantasy

I thought so, while writing this, but the only way to make it perfectly clear would probably just be to spoil what is going to happen. Any warning, as dire as they may be, may be seen as a challenge otherwise.
