I basically force the sneeze through my front teeth and it kinda works most of the time. Taught myself how when I noticed a girl I sat next to in school sneezed almost silently and I thought it was super cute. Now, coughing and throat-clearing on the other hand... Sounds like I've lived my whole life in a coal mine...

Real. Everyone says you're not supposed to, but I hold my sneezes cause of this x3

What is one supposed to do instead? Hope to have unpackaged tissues available in one's pocketses?

My lovely, beautiful wife usual scares the shit out of me when she sneezes. I have never heard any man go as loud, ever. Some people just have amazing lung capacity and vocal chords!

I, as a cis woman, have the same problem. xD

if you exhale before the sneeze comes out it makes it cute for some reason

I learned how to sneeze like a girl

i just make a girly sound on backend and hope no one notices

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

But I thought the frontend is what the user sees. Wouldn't this just make it so everyone other than yourself knows?

Make it go higher up in your mouth? I don't know how to describe it

[–] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago

Same, and I haven't even started voice training yet

my larynx goes up high when I sneeze and usually I sound pretty cute, this was actually a problem for me pre-transition

coughing on the other hand, is harder - I always want to open my chest and lungs and cough deeply, which uh, sounds not feminine

My mother sneezes when she's full. So when there's an occasion where people tend to overeat, everyone in the house knows when she reached capacity. It's like barking.

For a while we had a shelter cat who came to us at a later point in his live. And whatever happened to him in the past: when someone sneezed he meowed (not like cute little meow but the ones with the scrungy face). These two gave quite a show every evening, like a very weirs, loud and kinda angry duet

unfortunately I have my fathers sneeze which means every time I sneeze it registers on the Richter scale halfway across the world... and if I supress the sneeze I feel like my eyeballs will pop out -_-

cis dude i know has the daintiest, high-pitch low volume sneezes. He's a good dad and male role model

we dont choose our traits, but TV/social media sure as fuck has curated a very specific box which we all should 'supposedly' fit in.

Convinient for a certain few who profit from marketing to a particular over-catered-to demographic, no?

wait is this a real problm?

i thought this is a thing peeps jus do cuz they thinksies its funi... i always sneezed quietly lik: *breathes in* - - - tsch - |. i dun lik it when peeps yell lik - real loud n aggressiv when sneezn. suuu i jus dun do it..

i didn kno peeps actulli hav diffcultis with sneezin without yellin.... im supr vrri srri for u peeps ;(

[–] Foxfire@pawb.social 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah it's not for fun, or to intentionally annoy others in public spaces. Those loud sneezes are just the default for how it comes out for some people. Personally I always try to sneeze directly into my elbow, both for sanitary reasons, and also to be less loud in public.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 months ago

i alsuu sneeze in elbow, jus cuz i dun wana accdentlli spit at peeps >~< thad be uncomf! ;(

n alsuu to be evn quietr. usulli nobody evn notices i sneezd.... which alsuu means peeps dun say "bless u" which i kinda fin a bit sad - - -

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Im a very loud sneezer and if i suppress the sneeze it actually hurts.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago

well samsies bt its oki! <3

i get back pain from it ~ ~ ~ <3

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I generally get zero warning for sneezes, and they are always powerful; I'm usually dazed for a good 5-10 seconds after, and trying to hold it back can cause full body aching and pain (or it might hurt even if i don't, sometimes). 😕

Id love it if my entire head wasn't dysfunctional. Deviated septum, tinnitus, photosensitivity + astigmatism, severe year round allergies/excessive mucus production, giant head too big for most hats. At least my teeth aren't bad i guess?
