Nothing is stopping you from rolling initiative. Next time you're out and about and see a potential combat situation, just roll to see if you can strike first. Make reality D&D.

Eh, this can be hit or miss in my experience. Last time I attacked the blacksmith he turned into a dragon and ate me whole. Definitely don't recommend that experience.
