I could see that, and I’m sure you’re right that it’s a mixed bag, ultimately. Also I agree that it’s a common misunderstanding among second wave feminists.

I just meant that a key thread in their prejudice appears to be a kind of reciprocal othering or tribalism which accepts the imposition that gender is defined by sex, and thus interprets the struggle against the patriarchy more literally as a form of societal trench warfare. From that perspective, there can be no trans women by definition, only untrustworthy defectors who leapt over the proverbial trench, and a proper #radical feminist won’t forget and will keep her vigil.

Pulling that thread would seem to unravel their transphobia to reveal internalized misogyny, since they misunderstood feminism as misandry from the start.

It’s just a guess, however. I am young and often wrong.

Agreed. Only its obsolete connotation — hazardously unmeasured zealotry — would apply.

That they describe themselves as the positive kind of radical unironically speaks to how deeply they misunderstood feminism from the start.

Rome did too (mostly)

I think it’s an umbrella term for some types of self-governance like anarcho-syndicalism, but I was teasing in reference to a scene from Monty Puthon and the Holy Grail: https://tube.mint.lgbt/watch?v=ACvXR0sQDkM

My relationship is poly non-hierarchical and unmarried though, so while I can’t speak for everyone, that does sound accurate to me :)

I thought we were an autonomous collective?

Cool, that’s more resilience than I expected from a super sharp edge (but then I don’t really know anything about knives). Stropping looks wicked old-timey to my eyes, so of course I have to try it.

Over the years I’ve only had a couple bloody mistakes using safety razors (just trying to go too fast, not using enough soap, not tightening the head fully, or just getting the angle wrong). I assumed straight razors were less forgiving and never tried, but maybe it’s finally time to give it a shot!

No experience with straight razors. How often do you have to sharpen them? Did it take a while to get the technique right?

Yeah this is a favorite pet theory of mine as well, partly because I like imagining guys like Andrew Tate protesting being labeled “trans alpha” or whatever, but also because it’s just a fact that many cis people experience a form of gender dysphoria and commonly seek hormone therapy for it at early ages.

I’ve found that comparison usually clicks with uninitiated cis people immediately, even when they’ve only heard othering and alarmist narratives up to that point.

I think the romantic element is linked to desire for intimacy of some kind or other, and is there to some degree in every friendship, but when that becomes a “romantic attraction” usually varies and honestly is defined in hindsight more often than not.

So, not knowing is normal. If someone is pressing you to decide, they can definitely wait.
