During the Zapatistas revolt in Mexico (which, incidentally, was successful), many Mayan women who would not shoot a gun instead carried dummy rifles, essentially just wood carved like an AK47.

You can't carry a gun, certainly, but you can be a combatant, you can make the enemy afraid, you can draw fire, you can shame the enemy for their cowardice and make them afraid of your bravery and willingness to die for a cause. I am a pacifist, but I will still die alongside my comrades if it comes to that. Maybe get some bulletproof shields.

The state doesn't have to know. Either you never need it and nothing changes, or you actually have to use it, and you're at least alive to handle whatever bullshit comes next.

If you're going to carry, ghost or registered, I STRONGLY recommend taking a basic gun safety and concealed carry course first.

Good luck either way!

Do you know the song Chop Suey, by System of a Down?

Do you know the original name of that song, before the record company forced them to change it?

That's what she's referring to, I think.

Ah - yeah that went completely over my head. My bad!!

@oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone - Ma'am, I can be a dumbass sometimes. Please do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself, to include NOT arming yourself if that would put you at risk. No hostility intended. Except to the fucking Nazis that are infesting humanity right now - they can go eat lead.

Hate it or otherwise, the enemy is armed, and if their fervor isn't matched they won't stop to think. If they have to consider you an equal threat that forces at least some of them rethink their position. And some of them will walk away, cause their hate isn't as powerful as their will to live.

Those too hateful to see reason you where always going to have to fight tooth an nail, but at least there will be less of them.

If you like democracy and don't like fascism, you should be arming yourself right now.

[โ€“] forgetful_fox@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

I mean, yeah? Take our rights and we will use the ones we still have to defend the rest.

In my opinion you are foolish if you aren't arming yourself and practicing. Police are not in place to protect citizens.

Just keep in mind some of us in the country can't own guns

I really hope all the beautiful trans people are getting good quality training, and practicing regularly with their firearms, including drills involving moving, changing target distances, etc etc.

If you need tips, the YouTube channel TacticoolGirlfriend is thorough and newbie friendly. The Socialist Rifle Association is also very helpful in finding LGBT friendly resources in your area.

Got a Glock 19 because of magats. Hit the range at least once a week. Homophobia is a threat and Iโ€™ve already had to flash a couple people or adjust my gun belt while staring straight at them

I'm in the process of parting out a rifle currently, and already have a handgun. I figure there are plenty of queer people who can't own firearms for good reasons, so it's up to those of us who aren't at risk of intentional misuse to be community protectors (this applies to non-queer allies, too!)
