I've heard some chuds call it masculine behaviour (anecdotal).
I will say this is opinion based off personal observations: There is also the fact that it builds women up. It shows them they can be strong, it can teach them networking and team work. It also has a high rate of creating leaders and teaches a level of independence as well as the value of hard work. While some of these things might be desirable to conservatives, the parts they don't like cannot be removed from the sports without curtailing all the benefits.
