Dwarf Fortress almost made me fail a few courses in undergrad.

That is a game that redefines the concept of fun.

Bluntly - step outside lemmy and you'll see plenty.

There's little point for even trying to discuss it here - that died with the stickied post about the ICJ ruling and a mod who joined in rather than preventing hate speech.

I doubt the intelligence they transferred is only about the 12, given the size and immediacy of the reaction. Those are the ones they were able to most easily prove using Hamas' own footage of October 7th.

My guess is they passed a list with a lot more than 12 to each of those countries, and said "watch how many they fire".

Bottom line is that it isn't in Israel's best interests to stop all aid - they want to avoid a true humanitarian crisis (as opposed to the current threat of one) to achieve the war goals: return the hostages and destroy Hamas. UNRWA is best positioned to provide aid, but the proof on the ground is that they aren't distributing that aid effectively at all and people are suffering as a result.

It is extremely coincidental the director of UNRWA announced they terminated the employment of 9 employees during the ICJ hearing.

Almost like he was trying to bury the news.

Except immediate access to the means isn't actually part of it. They attempted to ethnically cleanse the area around Gaza, and publicly stated that one of their goals with the rocket fire was to empty the city of Ashkelon. They don't get a pass because they failed to fully succeed.

"The UK is appalled by allegations that UNRWA staff were involved in the 7 October attack against Israel, a heinous act of terrorism that the UK Government has repeatedly condemned," the UK Foreign Office said in a statement.

"The UK is temporarily pausing any future funding of UNWRA whilst we review these concerning allegations," it added.

The decision follows allegations that some UNRWA workers were involved in the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel carried out by Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The actual tweet:

The Italian government suspended funding @UNRWA after the atrocious attack by Hamas against Israel on 7 October. Allied countries have recently made the same decision. We are committed to humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian population, protecting Israel's security.

Other coverage of Italy's responses to the revelation that at least 12 UNRWA employees actively participated and used UNRWA facilities and vehicles in the staging and immediate aftermath of October 7th:

AP has more background, but hasn't picked up on Italy yet.

I wonder how long it will take for Israel to file a countersuit against Palestine for their failure to prevent genocidal statements.

There's plenty of room to have the ICJ force the UN to designate Hamas, PFLP, PIJ, Hezbollah, and others as genocidal terrorist organizations that cannot receive any UN funding or have their members employed by the UN. UNRWA would have to fire half their employees, but that's not a bad thing.

Don't underestimate people who have a vested interest in one side of a story and are willing to sacrifice anything to push that agenda.

That and the danger that a group will take their status and abuse it to push a particular agenda despite evidence to the contrary. At that point they're not fact checking - they're actively pushing disinformation.

I’ll definitely need a source for that

Literally google maps and wikipedia. Most of them are 100-200 people only. I exclude the areas past the 232 road because fewer than 5% of all Hamas allied deployments reached there.

The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group will leave the eastern Mediterranean Sea, where it was sent just after the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October, in the "coming days," two U.S. officials tell ABC News.

A senior U.S. official and a U.S. official told ABC News that in the "coming days," the carrier and other surface ships that make up the strike group will return to the carrier's home port of Norfolk, Virginia, as originally scheduled so it could prepare for future deployments.

Iran already has enough uranium enriched to up to 60%, if enriched further, to make three nuclear bombs, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency's theoretical definition, and more at lower enrichment levels. Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons.

Iran is enriching to up to 60%, close to the roughly 90% that is weapons grade, at its Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant (PFEP) in its sprawling Natanz complex and at its Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant (FFEP), which is dug into a mountain.

"The Agency confirms that, since the end of November 2023, the rate at which Iran has been producing uranium enriched up to 60% U-235 at these two facilities combined has increased to approximately 9 kg per month," the report to member states said.

Critical mass for U-235 is 56kg, and fuel grade Uranium is between 3-5%.

There are no legitimate non-weapons applications of Uranium enriched above 20%.

Red Cross officials have not yet been allowed to visit hostages that Hamas is holding in Gaza, multiple sources have told CNN – a violation of an agreement struck between Israel and Hamas, which stipulated that the Red Cross would be able to visit the hostages by the end of the fourth day of the truce.

US President Joe Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan said over the weekend that as a part of the Israel-Hamas truce agreement, Red Cross officials would be able to visit hostages still held captive in Gaza “by the end of the fourth day.” Another source familiar with the terms of the agreement echoed that this was an aspect of the deal.

There are also more than 30 hostages being held by other groups, and several of the hostages who were captured by Hamas are no longer being held by Hamas, and some others who were captured by PIJ were released by Hamas.

A British doctor who used to work at Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s largest medical center, under which the IDF says Hamas operates a major command and control base, has confirmed that there were areas of the hospital where he could not go, or else he would be shot.

In a recent interview with the English-language channel of French broadcaster France24...

Footage reportedly from the scene shared on local Telegram channels showed rioters chanting “Allahu Akbar” and stopping cars in order to check the documents of passengers to ensure they were not Israeli or Jewish. The Russian state-owned RIA Novosti outlet reported that police officers and the National Guard were present at the scene while the riots took place and that the airport had been closed due to the entry of rioters to the airport.

In Khasavyurt, also located in Dagestan, rioters gathered at a hotel where Israelis who had fled the fighting were reported to be staying, with some of the rioters entering the hotel and only leaving after ensuring that no Israelis were in the hotel.
