You should find a healthier coping strategy. What exactly is driving you to go somewhere you know will make you feel worse?

I only go to reddit for content. Its works as a normie link aggravator. It also is good for finding local news and stories because Lemmy communities for individual cities are empty.

Admittedly I usually only go there after I've doomscrolled past everything new on lemmy. Not the most mentally healthy practice, but what you describe sounds worse.

Stop actively seeking out harm. You deserve better than to treat yourself this way.

The US social security card does not have a gender marker. However, the database entry associated with the card does, and that database is what the feds use as the primary reference for determining someone's gender in federal systems.

There are no circumstances where an ID card would be unable identify an individual but for the gender marker. Gender markers should not exist. Gender shouldn't even be recorded.

Examining the genitals of newborn babies and recording the findings is weird unhinged behavior. It should not be normal.

Customs and border control is a federal agency. States do not control their own borders.

If you have to interact with the federal government, it is generally safer to go to offices in accepting areas, because despite federal control, offices are staffed by locals. For safety, check in with locals and vet your social security office before arrival.

However Canadians cannot do this by selecting their destination. When flying to the US, the customs check takes place in the foreign airport. They call it pre-clearence. Every major Canadian airport has pre-clearence, so your passport will be checked by customs agents, specifically selected for a foreign deployment. Upon the return trip the federal tsa will check your passport again before the flight.

My advice for travelers to the US is do not. Go literally anywhere else, or stay home. But if you have to, I would consider a land crossing, because in that case you only pass through a federal check one time upon arrival. But regardless check with local communities to ensure the federal agents you interact with are the least bad possible.

That was 5 months ago. Not exactly new information. We had that conversation shortly after it happened.

He said a dumb thing on a topic he knew very little about. Everything he's said about trans people comes from a place of ignorance, not malice in my view. Regardless the conversation about those comments already happened. Unless he's said something new, there's nothing to discuss here.

Why? Has there been a new development?

His screenshotted post is really old. Every time I've seen him say anything about trans people, he immediately tries to steer the conversation back to software. Literally the next line after the screenshot is that.

The man doesn't care about trans issues and is misinformed by the prevalent right wing misinformation. In my view, nothing in any of his statements have been driven by hate, just ignorance. His ban from blahaj is justifiable due to our strict rules, but nothing beyond that. He said one dumb thing one time. Its weird you keep bringing it up.

If nutomic's involvement in lemmy is such a problem for you, I suggest switching to piefed or something else. Other federated link aggregators are available.

I mostly waited until HRT to transition socially. I was presenting fem privately at home for quite some time before HRT. I took an approach of go fem with plausible deniability until the point I felt ready to start pursuing HRT. When I needed new clothes I would buy woman's versions of the clothes I already wore. Nice button down shirt, but this has the buttons backwards. Not a detail anyone notices, but felt better.

The first time I went out wearing a dress was after about a month on HRT. Wasn't really out, wanted to see if anyone would figure it out. It was very strange, I got so many compliments on my outfit, but not on the dress itself, just the other parts of the outfit. It was confusing.

I compared the text message conversations with my wife from the second month of HRT to the year before, and the difference was night and day. The first coworkers I came out to were those who noticed the change in mood and asked follow up questions.

The legislator in the title is Cyrus Javadi. He is a Oregon state level legislator, serving in the lower house. His district is the coastal area west of Portland, and he is now serving his second term, after winning with around a 5% margin.

This makes no difference to the makeup of the Oregonian legislature. Democrats have a majority in the state senate, and a super majority in the house, by two members. It doesn't swing the state's legislature, but it is always a good thing when people can see the errors of their ways and make a change.

I understand your concerns. Now is a dangerous time to be trans. But keep in mind, it's also dangerous to have the wrong hormones.

I second dandelion's stance on this. Start HRT as soon as possible. I didn't start on HRT until my 30s and my only regret is not starting sooner. Do not delay.

The HRT did far more about my depression than my clothing.
