I always see rolling a 20 or a 1 as an opportunity for rediculousness to ensue and the modifiers help decide what kind of rediculousness. Skilled swordsman rolls a 1? They have a hilarious fumble meanwhile someone who's never picked up a sword might be stabbing themselves with disadvantage (because the goal isn't to kill the player but to let the dice add flavor. Also accidentally stabbing yourself would probably do less damage than intentionally stabbing someone)

Person who's never picked up a sword rolls a 20? Guess they're now demonstrating awe-inspiring sword skill that they will never be able to match

It's a damn good movie. Early DreamWorks films were really something else. I recently watched Road to El Dorado with my kids and seeing Cortez correctly portrayed as the bad guy, the incredibly witty writing, good character development and everything, it was clearly written with adults in mind as well.

There's seriously a lot of good animated films from the late 90s/early 2000s that are like a peek into an alternate universe where animation as a medium was treated as a real art form and allowed to break out of the children's market. I've seen some lay the blame at Shrek given how much of a breakout success it was and how different it was to anything else in film. Except rewatching it as an adult now it's best moments are when it's dunking on Disney and everything else is just a malaise of fart jokes and gross out humor. Peak comedy for an 8 year old, not much beyond that though.

Meanwhile you go watch Anastasia (1997) which was the first film produced by Fox Animation and you see something far darker but still beautifully animated and exquisitely written. My wife and I actually kept watching that one after my kids went to bed because the mix of real history, embellished mysticism and fiction was brilliant plus the animation and art style absolutely gorgeous.

Now that Disney owns basically everything it's pretty sad to look at what could've been. I've seen it said that Japanese Animation is so popular because they treated it as an art form and took it seriously for both children's and adult media, and it's definitely another window into what the world would be like if the industry in the US stayed on that course from the early 00s

Given how murderous some parties get this could become a bit of a problem!

Basically this. As a straight(ish) cis person with exclusively queer friends (purely by happenstance of course) that do be how it is for folks who are not bi/pan/Omni is just we're just not attracted to masculinity/femininity.

Basically think of whatever is just super not your type, and imagine that feeling but towards specifically masculinity or femininity in general and you have what it's like

I did a one-shot once with a Bethesda start (locked in a prison with a bunch of stranger) pickpocketed the keys off the guard, got caught, convinced the guard to gift me the keys, then when the guard saw me giving the keys to another player I convinced the guard I was just passing on the kindness. I then snuck into the office of the warden (boss) stole some magical items (including an immovable rod). Later after the inevitable fight where the other players who actually had the stats to fight wasted a few guards, I did successfully convince a couple of guards to just go home for the day before I snuck out.

Later attempting to escape through the city, we're stopped by some guards who'd heard about the prison escape and see a rag-tag group covered in blood and in a hurry so they assume we're the escaped prisoners. I told them we were midwives leaving a very messy birth and heading to another emergency (advantage on that roll was all that caused it to land) then ultimately met up with the warden at the town gate who I simply trapped with my immovable rod
