It's also fun that critical success and critical fail has the player (or enemy) rolling for a random result from a table.

It was also pretty funny when one of my players cast color spray from the back line, but they cast it to well, so it actually did damage and almost killed a player

I'm not a fan of using tech if I can get by with pen and paper. From a Judge perspective, I only use my phone/laptop for music.

If my players are on their phones I don't make a deal of it (not everyone can keep 100% focused all the time).

I do understand that some people reach for their phone when they're getting fidget-y so for everyone at the table I provide a basket of fidget toys that can occupy their hands. I don't make any deal out of fidgeting, but I try to provide an alternative to the phone that scratches that itch.

Sometimes I roll dice just to mess with my players.

The biggest thing that I have been able to figure out is that OSR will tend to shoot for the mindset of rulings over rules. Yes there is the rule book, but it's there to aid you in decision making not be the cudgle that some player can use to get their way.

I ran one of my player groups through part 2 of Frozen In Time by Michael Curtis for Dungeon Crawl Classics.

One of my PC's has color spray with chain casting and I got to learn just how OP that is in DCC (several one-sided fights). I'm still figuring out being a game Judge, but it's been really fun.

So far this group has gone through the level 0 funnel "Hole in the Sky" by Brendan Lasalle where they lost so many characters to the the pumpkin monster before breaking a demon out of a prison dimension.
