Not just blocking new marker changes. This paves the way to revoking any previously changed passport markers as well. Fuck.

Reminds me a bit of a previous campaign (not DnD). We (the party) spent so much time and attention murdering and threatening our way into a coup against the sickly King that we stopped paying attention to anyone else in the story.

Then in our campaign finale, we flub every single roll to execute the coup, and our whole plan gets hijacked by a more competent NPC to seize power for herself. Queue TPK* while we all get hunted down as traitors.

* Except for the party poisoner. He was happy to spend his life in prison so long as the new government let him brew poisons for use against enemies of the state.

All cops are bony

Twist: You think this is the legendary lost crown of Foo? Some rotten trash you grabbed in a dungeon just happens to be the thing you've been looking for all this time? Pull the other one! It's been so ravaged by time that none of the markings or engravings are clearly visible. Best you can hope for is that some merchant will buy it off you for scrap.

Even if the PCs think this is the lost crown of Foo, only the kingdom's last grandmaster artificer can conduct a conclusive test. Assuming you even find them, it's not like they take appointments from any dirty old adventurers off the street.

My brain will rupture in rage if Newsom becomes the 2028 Democratic presidential candidate.

I wish it hadn't taken until this past year for me to notice how willing the dems are to horse trade people's rights in the name of "business as usual".
