But if they did put in an eye, even if it didn't work at first, it's very possible the part that atrophied would gradually redevelop. I'm pretty sure that exact scenario has already happened IRL for a lot of deaf people

Well, lucky isn't the right word, but I'm glad those two kittens were able to stay. I guess the lesson is to try fostering the kitten first, without the expectation of adoption, just in case the current cat isn't a fan.
