So sick of hearing how bad October 7th was.

You have to thank the 10/7 truthers for that. For those tinfoil hat folks "nothing happened on October 7th", "there was no rape", "Hamas are heroes", and we have many, many of these 10/7 deniers on Lemmy that are amplifying the disgusting "believe all women, except Israelis". It is important to remind that the rapes happened, that Hamas is not a "resistance movement" but merely a bunch of rapists and terrorists, and most importantly that rape is not resistance.

According to Pramila Patten, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Special Envoy for Sexual Violence in Conflicts, she has been unable to sleep for a week since viewing the 47-minute video compiled by the IDF of the atrocities committed on October 7. The scenes continue to haunt her. "Only after I saw the video did I understand things that I didn't understand before in terms of the magnitude of the disaster that happened."

"Patten's visit was especially important to us so that there would be international recognition of the suffering and the horrendous sexual crimes committed against Israeli women and girls on October 7 by the monsters of Hamas," Erdan said. "It is equally important for the world to understand who we are fighting against. The disregard and indifference demonstrated by the UN and its women's organization is a disgrace that cannot be allowed to continue."

Paten will depart on Monday, at the conclusion of an intense 8-day visit. Throughout her stay, she gathered evidence of the incidents of sexual and gender-based violence perpetrated by the terrorists.

TRT does not have a low MBFC score

Queva’s posts, which have still not been taken down, are of a rambling and vitriolic nature, and she refers to the “holohoax” and “AshkeNazis”, the latter of which is a play on the word ‘ashkenazi’, meaning Jews who descend from those who lived in Central or Eastern Europe.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Wednesday he was hopeful it could be decided later in the day which member state could lead the upcoming EU mission to protect vessels in the Red Sea, adding this operation could de launched before mid-February.

"Not all member states will be willing to participate but no one will obstruct (..) I hope that on the 17th of (February) the mission can be launched," Borrell said.

He added the operation will be named Aspides , "which means protector".

Patients in hospitals, either ill or injured, are a protected class under the Geneva Conventions.

Again, not a clear-cut issue. You cannot extrapolate a few lines from the Geneva Convention with your own definitions of what constitutes a "patient". So again, since this misinformation is being repeated, I find it only fair to quote a few passages on why that is, at least, debatable and why it is still indeed very important to add that the 3 killed were terrorists, were carrying guns and were planning a terrorist attack.

The Geneva Convention provides guidelines for the medical treatment of enemy wounded and sick, as well as prisoners of war. However, there are no comparable provisions for the treatment of terrorists, who can be termed unlawful combatants or unprivileged belligerents.

(there wouldn't be an article about it if it was an obvious question: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19998085/ , you should contact that journal and ask them to retract that article since you seem to say that they're wrong)

Qualifying as wounded or sick in the context of international humanitarian law requires the fulfilment of two cumulative criteria: a person must require medical care and must refrain from any act of hostility. In other words the legal status of being wounded or sick is based on a person’s medical condition and conduct.

Being an active terrorist member of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, carrying at least one gun, planning a terrorist attack, and very likely committing perfidy by hiding as civilian patients in a hospital, all of that is certainly NOT "refraining from any act of hostility". You're free to consider the more general moral debate on whether it's okay to assassinate terrorists hiding in a hospital, but it's wrong and misleading to make the Geneva Convention say what it clearly doesn't say at all.

What would have clearly defended the terrorists' right to care would have been if they surrendered and left Hamas. But in the absence of that, it's, at best, still debatable whether the First Geneva Convention defends those terrorists' right to hide as civilians in a hospital to "receive care" or not.

With all this said, yes, it is very much indeed misinformation to maliciously leave out the fact that the 3 killed were Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists.

Hamas rejected a hostage deal drafted in Paris over the weekend because it did not include a permanent ceasefire.

JERUSALEM, Jan 29 (Reuters) - The militant Palestinian group Hamas fired a barrage of rockets at Tel Aviv and nearby cities on Monday, displaying long-range fire power after weeks of relative quiet in central Israel, though there were no reports of casualties.

Angst is, indeed, palpable across the continent. From Britain to Italy, tensions have risen sharply. In the period between the Hamas attack and Oct. 27, Britain’s Community Security Trust, a charity, said that it had recorded 805 antisemitic acts, the highest number in a three-week period since it began reporting episodes of this kind in 1984.

[...]

In France, home to the largest Jewish community in Europe, antisemitic attacks have surged since the Oct. 7 attack, with 819 acts registered and 414 arrests made, according to Gérald Darmanin, France’s interior minister.

The new research, released by the UK-based Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) on Tuesday, found that in the three days following the attack, the absolute number of antisemitic comments on conflict-related YouTube videos increased by 4963% when compared to the previous three days.

Part of this surge can be explained by an increase in the number of videos focusing on Israel and Gaza published on the platform. But the proportion of antisemitic comments had still ballooned by a daily average of 247% after fighting broke out, according to the ISD.

French intelligence is “taking seriously” the idea that Russia has fanned panic over its bedbug outbreak.

Reported outbreaks of bedbugs infesting homes and migrating to metros and cinemas have caused hysteria in France.

Algeria even announced in early October that it would introduce “preventative measures” to ward off the spread of bedbugs to their country from France on planes and ships.

A test tube full of bed bugs was even brought into the French parliament by an MP raising concern about the “wave of panic that has seized the country”.

The government staged an emergency meeting earlier this month and Clément Beaune, the transport minister, pledged to send sniffer dogs into trains to check for their presence.

While experts say global warming and the revival of international travel and tourism in the wake of Covid lockdowns has caused an uptick in the bloodsucking insects, others suggest the current national debate is disproportionate and the outbreak is not significant.

Against this backdrop, French intelligence agents cited by RMC radio say they strongly suspect Russia of seeking to amplify fears by spreading so-called “doppelgänger” articles on social media that appear to come from respected French news outlets but are faked.

JERUSALEM, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Israeli troops fired artillery and mortar shells toward Syria on Tuesday after a number of shells launched from its northern neighbour landed in open areas on Israeli territory, Israel's military said.

A source in southern Syria said a Palestinian faction had fired three rockets toward Israel.

The development raises fears the violence could lead to a wider war, as Israel trades cross-border salvoes with Lebanon's Hezbollah and battles Hamas militants in Gaza.

The military said its soldiers had fired "toward the origin of the launching in Syria". It did not provide details.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.
