On the one hand, I feel it is my civic duty to get thigh-highs and that similar fabric to cover the the hands/arms, with a mini skirt and short top, taking a picture of my libreboot thinkpad with neofetch running. 😅

i never did and probably never will. that's also why my code usually does not compile. i know.

i started in waves. everytime i went to a shop and searched for a fit i'd wear as everyday-fit. in part even for work. something i felt comfy in. that gave me a lot of basics (plain skirts, shirts in a more fem cut ...), that i can then combine with more fancy stuff. some of my drag-fits are getting a second life that way. a bit toned down. ;)

probably the first piece was a purse I bought myself as a teenager from a festival (it was hand-made by a local).

Then it was the hand-me-down jeans from my mom that fit me better than men's jeans and felt nicer to wear.

Then when I was on my own, it was skirts I bought from a department store.

Then I repressed for over a decade and during that time I had a few drab skirts and a couple simple, drab dresses that I exclusively wore at home because it made me feel better inexplicably.

Then when I transitioned, it was all the clothes: skirts, blouses, dresses (oh so many dresses: lemon dresses, long sleeveless dresses that combine with wraps well, colorful summer flowy dresses with straps, a strapless dress that felt perfect for a beach, formal black dresses, flowery spring dresses, etc.), wraps of various kinds (my favorite were soft cotton lounge wraps), and then a few sweaters for colder weather (turtle necks looked awful when I started HRT because my neck was so fat, but a few years in I think they look OK on me now, at least not horrible).

I do have a single blazer, I wore it to a party recently with a nice red blouse and plaid above-the-knee skirt and I think it went well?

In general a blazer (esp. with slacks) can come across as masculine, so do with that what you will.

Shoes are also a struggle, but my feet really changed with HRT and now I fit women's sizes much better.

I started transitioning over 11 years ago. One of my college friends gave me a huge box of hand-me-downs and told me to take anything I wanted, and donate the rest. I still have my favorite jacket from that even though it doesn't fit me any more

Your tastes will definitely change over time. I used to wanna try all fem clothing at the start, nowadays I'm usually in jeans and a T-shirt

My very first order of gender affirming clothes I got was black shiny leggings and a hoodie with flowers on it. That felt great! I was so stuck in grey/blue/black jeans & t-shirt that even a different pattern and lighter colours felt exciting. I later got a bra I stuffed for shape under t-shirts which was very fun. Then I got a very dramatic witchy dress I wore like three times. Then a bodycon dress. I loved the sensation of wearing something tight because I never did before. I also got a flower-print office skirt I liked. I wore all this in secret at home though. I also got a skater skirt and some bodysuits, two of which I actually still wear to this day!

Basically, I mostly got shapes, materials and pieces in general that just don't exist in the men's section and they sparked a great deal of joy. This was 8 years ago now and I've since grown out of most of the stuff I got at the beginning. It was all very cheap and not very stylish. But I don't regret getting the clothes I got, I had fun with them and they helped me learn about myself and find out what I like. I also had no idea about fashion back then so I had to experiment quite a bit and it took me a few years to really understand what looks good on me and what doesn't. And I'm still learning, probably.

edit: oh and also high-waisted pants! Loved when I first wore them and still do.

all the family (mother and sister) in my household are other girls/women (eccentric, lesbian women no less), and given our similar proportions we share/borrow much clothes with eachother. we used to live somewhere super north so we have a lot of baggier and skin-covering clothes, especially hoodies, as well as a lot of stockings and arm warmers (that "similar fabric to cover the hands/arms") for obvious reasons. i did of course experiment a lot with these!

personally i also began dressing by just seeing what other people around me wore, then tried to suit that to my own preferences. it definitely does take a little experience though, but of course there's only one way to get that, so don't be afraid to experiment :) (even if it's just in the confines of your or your friend's home).

currently the trend in my city is sweats and hoodies, but when i started out jeans were especially fashionable, so i tried those out, per the suggestion of a friend (note: friends are great for this!).

uh as for tops, again i have borrowed many a coat/dress/sweater from my family. still though, i found there were absolutely styles that are better than others for me. early on i discovered the fun that colorful clothing can be, and i haven't really stopped since! graphic tees are awesome too. starting out, sweaters were mostly my favorite, but there were a few that really emphasized my wide shoulders, which i personally hated.

aside from that, it took me a while to feel confident going out with makeup. my mother is a jeweler though, so i have a lot of bracelets and other fun stuff like that!

clothing is so so fun, so do experiment as much as you can! this is just scratching the surface of what i wear

Before I transitioned, I was a girl-passing femboy, so it’s really tough to nail down what outfit or specific item made me feel feminine. But as my style continued to evolve, I continue to feel good.

I got a few maxi skirts, very loose and swishy sort. Enough androgynous people wear them that you can get by as a hipster if you don't want to be out, but they're swishy and fun enough to give the euphoria!

I'd also measure shoulder width and sleeve length for tops and dresses, and inseam (leg length) for pants - women's clothing comes in a lot of different shapes and they won't all fit.

What finally broke me was I bought a skater skirt, crop top, and thigh highs off the internet; as is tradition.

My first gender euphoria was dressing in drag for rocky horror at 15. I had a fishnet top with a studded bra underneath and a short blonde wig. Very fun alt girl vibes. Its the happiest photo i have of myself at that age lol

The first thing I bought was a skirt from Next. I kinda hate it now. Then I bought a skirt from amazon that was considerably more spinny and also came in pink. Urban CoCo. The fallback for all newly hatched eggs and frankly I think it holds up great. I still get compliments on my Urban CoCo skirts afterall

Was pretty overwhelming in the shops with the choices and all. Never liked clothes shopping.

Only went for top pieces, with the blouse in the picture and a similar one in green. Also a little vest and shirt underneath.
The vest absolutely sucks. Definitely gonna return that one. And while the blouses both seem a size too small, I was so happy trying them on. omfg. That this is even possible. I actually lack the words to articulate myself.
