Dyson has a blocked tear duct that didn't respond to saline flushing. The vet says that surgery involves removing the entire tear duct. Or I think that's what she said. Sounds drastic.

Has anyone gotten this surgery done on their cat? What was the outcome?

Ask your vet about details and alternatives.

Extreme Dry eyes could cause blindness over time. So usually tear ducts are not removed.

If you're unsure what the vet said, call them back to clarify.

Ask them to tell you what treatment they're recommending exactly and why, what are the alternatives if any and what are the short and long term effects of each, as well as any side effects and risks.

Once you got all that and still unsure or concerned, see another vet and ask for a consultation for a second opinion.

Treat it the same as if your doctor told you that you need operation.

Well, I know that flat faced breeds like Persians often have tear duct surgery. Dyson is a regular domestic short hair, but he has a chronically weepy left eye. The vet thinks he may have once had an infection that left it plugged with scar tissue.

I can't speak to this specific issue but I'd recommend contacting your vet to clarify your questions. Also remember you can get a second opinion from another vet.
