Is this not them being more specific? It is specifically calling to lesbian, gay, and bisexual folks and explicitly not including transgender and gender diverse folk, as per the study

gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans vape at significantly higher rates

Conclusive data on transgender users was unavailable, the authors noted.

(I do however understand the knee jerk reaction to seeing LGB on its own. Fuck terfs.)
