Get a second box that is not broken. Put it next to the broken box.
Let Sencha decide which box to keep. He'll choose the one he wants. Discard the other one.
I love empirical cat ownership.
You just know the cat will go to the new box and complain when you touch the broken one.
Or once you take either away, he will consistently want the one that isn’t there.
It's going to be both
There was a time when my cat owned three cardboard boxes, and whenever I wanted to take the old cardboard boxes that he had bitten through, he would chase me and meow in opposition.
