Rescue from my warehouse (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

This little scaredy cat got into the warehouse in which I work, and someone had to save her so I did. I recently asked about integrating her into my house with my 2y old cat.

So far, she's been quarantined in a separate room, she's got a bite on her foot I wasn't told about that looks partially healed, but still not great, and so I'll have to figure that out first. I have a cone on the way to stop her from licking at it until I can get her to the vet (who was supposed to email me yesterday...c'mon guys kitty need help!) Unclear if the bite came from one of the dogs inside the warehouse, or (lord I hope not, but...honestly I think so..), the raccoon she was spotted near a few days before she gained entry to the warehouse. I have a pic if anyone wants to see it, but it looks like a lil puncture wound (not exactly cute) so I'm only going to if someone requests 'cause they wanna help (as much help as that can be, need the vet for sure but advice is always welcome in the meantime!!)

She's terrified, but, that's probably normal? I mean, she's a wounded stray captured in a humane trap and then was fostered in a bathroom for a while until I got her in her own room. It's been like 26hr since I got her here, I'd be scared too. That said, she'll hiss and hiss but won't bite or scratch, when she hisses I'll pause and slow blink, then keep going, when I reach her she'll let me pet her, pick her up, starts purring and rubbing her face into the pets, y'know, cat stuff. So, pretty good? Idk! I've only adopted from humane rescues so far this is kiiiinda my first "found it in a dumpster" cat.

My tubby kitty, resident idiot... Idk if she's even noticed, despite the new kitten using her separate box (clearly "smells" involved there wafting under the door) and she definitely heard her meowing at me (begging for release into the wild) about 1h ago. Doesn't seem to care at all, who knows with this dingus! Maybe they'll become fast friends when they see each other, here's hoping!

Here's another pic, of her deciding I may not be so bad after all, of course she'll forget this next time I walk in...

At the proposal’s introduction, the MAGA loyalist was joined by two other far-right members on the five-person council in support. By the end of the six-hour meeting, MAGA Mike’s Pride flag ban was literally in tatters: Munzing himself shredded the document in a fit of red-faced rage.

Summary:

In February 2025, as U.S. President Donald Trump called for an end to diversity, equity and inclusion practices in the federal workforce, reports claimed the Department of Homeland Security — led by Secretary Kristi Noem — had removed bans on conducting intelligence activities on people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Such reports shared copies of the original DHS report, which showed a rule that originally prohibited personnel from conducting intelligence activities based only on a person's "race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, country of birth, nationality, or disability." The latest such report appeared to have removed the references to sexual orientation and gender identity.

The claim is correct that the current DHS report detailing such a rule no longer states how it applies to sexual orientation or gender identity. We looked at an older copy of the report as well as the latest copy and found the reference had been omitted. As such, we rate this claim as true.

Led by a Trump sycophant and a disgraced sports media mogul, Trump’s new team seeks to snuff out trans students from sports, bathrooms and locker rooms.

In recent years, opponents of trans medicine have increasingly presented themselves not as oppressors—intent on denying care to individuals whose gender identity they reject—but rather as the righteous critics of a corrupt “gender identity industry.” Big Pharma and Big Tech are to blame, they allege, for warping the fragile psyches of vulnerable youth via social media platforms and then selling them expensive, “experimental” puberty-suppressing medications, hormone replacement therapies, and surgeries as salves. This populist-in-form critique has spread rapidly, along with state bans on trans health for minors that now cover over half of the country. Criticisms of this so-called “transgender treatment industry” can be found in conservative states’ litigation defending their bans, as well as in a recent executive order that questioned whether such care might constitute consumer “deception” or “fraud.”

In a forthcoming essay in Signs, I have sought to understand the origins and ideological power of this anti-industry narrative. The fear of a predatory “transgender-industrial complex” clearly draws from due skepticism of industries that many understandably abhor. Pharmaceutical and social media companies do indeed hold dominion over our wallets, health, and attention spans. From there though, the narrative spirals into baseless paranoid suspicions about the perverse motivations of gender identity clinicians and their professional associations, complicit bureaucrats in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and trans subjectivity itself, which in this account is a blend of psychic pathology and a shopping disorder. Perhaps that it why this conspiratorial idea was at first confined to the fringes of the blogosphere—mainly in the writings of gender-critical, anti-transhumanist, and Catholic and Christian fundamentalist authors from around 2018-2021—before right-wing politicians, media outlets, and think tanks adopted a version of the idea to ground their anti-trans scapegoating policies.

Here, I want to focus on one voice in the anti-gender identity industry chorus, the ostensibly libertarian Manhattan Institute, and ask what its leaders and donors might gain from fomenting distrust of healthcare professional associations and bureaucrats. [...]

Trying to get females fixed can be tough, especially when everyone's booked for like 4 months... fortunately we've got plans for them and their 7 kids. Tabby on the right is mom to the 3 indoors, and the one on the left is the Tabbys mom.

Meet Mr. Big, Gizmos dad! He's a big burly boy who prefers to live outside, but I've never met any cat like him. All my life I've been a big dog guy, but this Mister changed my entire outlook. I know where I'm posting, so y'all know how cats can be, but I've never met a more cuddly and protective boy. We took him and the cat he knocked up in and now I'm a cat dad!

As promised, here's more of Cleo featured in her favorite afternoon spot, my chest/stomach.

Thanks again, everyone, for the well wishes the other day. She made a speedy recovery once we went to the vet.
