They are talking about why we are so dependent on the USA because we don’t have European operating systems and European browsers.

For fucks sake, have they been living under a digital rock for the last 30 years?

The German parliament’s football team was adamant that it already had enough rightwingers. But FC Bundestag has been thrown into crisis after a Berlin court overturned a ban on members of the far-right Alternative for Germany from joining the squad.

In a microcosm of the fraught debate about how to handle the AfD — which last month claimed a historic second-place finish in federal elections — the club must now decide how to respond to the ruling and whether to allow the far right MPs to take part in its weekly matches.

“More than 20 per cent of the population voted for us and want us to be represented in different offices in the parliament — and also in FC Bundestag,” said Malte Kaufmann, an AfD Bundestag member who campaigned against the ban. “This is an example of how opposition rights are trampled in Germany.”

Italian version of the article.

Almost 300 top-flight clubs have deals with betting firms this season, exposing the game’s financial dependence on the sector. A number of teams circumvent restrictions with ‘gateway’ sponsors as campaigners say agreements risk pushing more into addiction.

On Friday, the constitutional reform secured the support of more than two-thirds of the seats in the Bundesrat, the upper house that represents Germany’s 16 federal states.

The changes, which were approved by the Bundestag earlier this week, loosen the country’s constitutional borrowing restrictions to allow unlimited defence spending and create a special €500bn, 12-year vehicle to modernise the country’s infrastructure.

UN secretary-general António Guterres has asked EU leaders not to request rebates from the New York-based body this year in order to help offset a halt in US contributions that have forced it to slash its operations.

The plea occurred on the eve of a summit of EU leaders in Brussels on Thursday, three officials told the Financial Times.

It comes as the UN’s top humanitarian official said that the budget crisis caused by the Trump administration meant it was being forced to take “life and death choices about where we can best save lives”.

France’s telecommunications regulator, Arcom, has ordered Eutelsat to stop broadcasting two Russian TV channels sanctioned by the EU. The landmark decision comes three years after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

It was one of the most dramatic and radical policy reversals in European Union history. In less than 48 hours, Germany not only executed a seismic shift in its domestic budget policy but also suddenly pushed to rewrite the EU’s fiscal rules it itself helped to draft.

Brussels welcomed the first move as a long-overdue response to years of urging Germany to invest more, rather than let itself be constrained by a constitutional limit on borrowing.

But the second? That was seen as a unilateral move — an overcorrection that unsettled even Germany’s closest allies.

The European Union plans to dramatically ramp up defense spending, mobilizing 800 billion euros over the next four years. The aim is to strengthen Europe's defense readiness and boost military support for Ukraine. The sharp increase signals growing concern that the bloc could also come under attack by Russia -- and can no longer depend on US protection for Europe via NATO.

A cargo ship, linked to the Russian ghost fleet, which has been investigated for suspicious activity in the Baltic was spotted by an Irish Air Corps aircraft dropping an anchor close to an undersea cable in Irish waters.

It has emerged that the incident earlier this year occured in waters off the north east coast. The Air Corps had dispatched an aircraft to monitor its movements as it is a list of Russian related vessels.

There has been several incidents in the Baltic Sea where anchors, dropped by Russian linked vessels, have damaged critical internet cables.

The Air Corps was able to film the ship, dropping the anchor in the area, and following communication from the Irish crew the cargo vessel fled. It was not confirmed if the ship was intentionally targeting undersea infrastructure or if it was a case of bad seamanship.

The ship, sailing under a flag from Caribbean region, had been in trouble in the Baltic Sea in the same month. German authorities escorted it out of the area along with Swedish and Danish naval colleagues.

On that occasion she was sailing from St Petersburg en route through the waters near Gotland, an island off Sweden.

The sighting of it in Irish waters was made earlier this year and it was being monitored after intelligence was shared from a friendly nation with the Irish State.

An Irish Air Corps maritime patrol vessel was despatched to keep watch – it is understood that they recorded it, using specialist camera equipment, as it dropped the anchor.

It is understood the ship was contacted by radio by the Irish Defence Forces and directed to haul its anchor back up and it departed the area.

The Journal has learned that the ship is back in Irish waters and is heading towards the west coast.

It is understood that the ship has steamed from the Bay of Biscay and is currently off the Cork and Kerry coast.

Using an open source flight monitoring service The Journal was able to follow an Air Corps CASA 295 aircraft which went to a location near the ship this afternoon.

This publication has previously revealed that Ireland held a major exercise behind closed doors to test how Ireland will deal with a complete loss of the internet after a targeted attack.

It is understood that the event, known as a tabletop exercise, was held in February and involved multiple Government departments and agencies including the Defence Forces, An Garda Síochána and other emergency services.

The scenario was a concerted cyber attack which was combined with the loss of multiple undersea cables.

There are a large amount of fibre optic internet cables connecting Europe to the US and other parts of the world running through Irish waters. They carry all high speed internet traffic, including banking and other critical data.

So I'm basically doing an autism deep-dive into endocrinology at the moment and I came across this study, which suggests that

There have been good results in recent research to inhibit the generator of pulsatile secretion of GnRH necessary for ovulation by using melatonin in a new type of oral contraceptive.

As far as I understand from this article, GnRH basically stimulates biological hormone production (testosterone & LH in biological men; progesterone and estrogen in biological women).

If melatonin reduces GnRH production to such a level that it may even be used as a contraceptive, I cannot help but wonder, if any of you remember any supplementary (gender affirming) effects if you have taken melatonin before or during replacement hormone therapy?

In August, Texas banned drivers in the state from changing the gender markers on their driver’s licenses to match their gender identities. New reporting reveals that employees at the Department of Public Safety (DPS) continue to document every change request by trans drivers for collection in a state database.

At least 42 such attempts — including instances where people asked for guidance about state policies during calls, in-person appointments, and by email — have been reported in the last five months, according to documents shared with The Texas Newsroom.

DPS staff scanned and saved trans drivers’ information, the records show, and sent the data to a designated internal email account.

Officials at DPS and the Texas Attorney General’s office refused to say why the state is gathering the information, with whom it is sharing it, and whether the data collection is ongoing.

The documents also shed light on how those requests are handled. Some employees allowed the drivers to change the name listed on their licenses, but rejected their requests to update their gender. Others declined both requests.

Some new residents presented out-of-state or federal documents that matched their gender identity but were still denied a matching Texas license or ID.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has called court orders directing Texas officials at DPS and other agencies to change gender markers “illegal.”

Screenshots of DPS’ trans data collection email address circulated online soon after the state banned gender marker changes, and the account was overwhelmed with spam from people protesting it.

Out of 700 pages of emails reviewed in September, only one was about an actual request to change a gender marker. Another 80 came from pranksters and critics.

Someone signed up the email address for newsletters from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and a bargain hunter website called Krazy Coupon Lady. The address also received emails from QueerMeNow, an explicit gay adult entertainment blog, and Lovehoney, a British company that sells adult toys and lingerie, KERA News reported.

One email read, “oh no someone is spamming your gestapo list wow,” while others called the policy “evil,” “weird,” and fascistic. Some accused DPS employees of acting like a “good little Nαzi” and “a disgrace in the eyes of God.”

The new internal agency documents reveal employees continued to collect data and forward it internally for collection after the spamming uprise.

Last week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reiterated that it’s unlawful for trans Texans to change the gender listed on their state IDs, and added that any documents that have been altered are required to be changed back. There is no law prescribing the latter.

Earlier this year, a bill was introduced in the Texas Legislature to imprison anyone whose gender on state documents does not match the one assigned to them at birth.
