I don't think I've ever called a cat by its name. Depending on what they're doing it's either "hey", "pspsps", or snapping fingers. I don't think the cats care either. But names are useful when talking to other humans like "Muffin picked a fight with Potato yesterday. Potato won"
Maybe it's weird that the cat didn't try jumping down but this situation is not that rare. I've seen a workplace where a cat was stuck in one of those semi-floors between windows and when asked the employees were like, oh yeah, she's been there a few days.
